After a few libations I fell down the rabbit hole of maintenance on the S4 (Yes, I know it’s a giant rabbit hole). But I did have a question that I can’t seem to

Kinja'd!!!

get a straight answer on: Does the B7 S4 4.2L need the carbon cleaning? I see a ton about the RS4 needing it and then a ton of hodgepodge about the benefits/worthlessness of it on the S4. Just looking for some guidance from the Opponauts that have owned a B7 S4 well before me. Thanks all!

Buy APR’s supercharger, good for 700+hp from the 4.2 and 10s in the quarter mile. Install a port fuel injector to feed it, and have your valves cleaned as a side effect.

No, the B7 S4 does not need carbon cleaning because it’s not direct injected. Being that it’s port injected, it still has fuel in the intake track to clean the valves under normal operation.
